On the night of June 4, 1989 the Chinese Government massacred unarmed protesters in Tiananmen Square. The media was sequestered and the government tried to censor all evidence of the event, this photo was smuggled out, and to this day the Chinese Government tries to pressure media outlets and technology companies to not display the image.
The next day the Chinese Government rolled a division of tanks through Tiananmen Square and one brave citizen blocked their path. This time the media was present and was broadcasting live, and the military flinched and didn’t kill him for standing in their way.

Tank Man went missing shortly after this event, and most people believe he was assassinated by the Chinese Government.
